Managing projects shouldn’t just be a “person holding a clipboard”. Project leaders should get themselves ingrained in the business processes and technology necessary to complete a project, then envision and implement ways to create as little friction towards project delivery as possible.
While every project varies, we’ve found success in project delivery through making goals transparent, ensuring every process has an owner, creating custom tools to seamlessly collect and publish status, ensuring all “edge cases” of new processes are tested, and hosting dry runs to uncover any missed requirements.
Ultimately, project team members need to know they are valued, being heard, and that their time is respected. And business owners need to know they know what to expect and that any material risks are mitigated prior to going live with new processes.
Getting project delivery right can be a lot to ask, but as experienced project delivery professionals, we are confident in our knowledge of what must be done to see through new initiatives from start to finish.
